There are a lot of things you can do to help with conservation in the boreal forest, even if you don't live near it. They may be as simple as telling someone about it, or as active as participating in a public forum. Whatever your action is, they all matter and they all have power.
Be Engaged
Participate in Public Consultations
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) holds public consultations on many forest-related issues each year. These forums are a place to learn about the MNRF approach to conservation, and are also a place for the public to voice concerns. Notification of public consultation is given at the district and field offices of the MNRF in the communities in which they are taking place.
Be Aware of the Science
Part of the MNRF's mandate is to preserve the natural resources of Ontario. Each year, they undertake a number of studies to determine the health of the forests of the province, and these reports are made available through their website. They also provide ways for people to become in engaged in forest management practices throughout the province.

Take Action
Write Political Representatives
Whether it be your federal or provincial member of parliament, if enough of us start asking questions about these issues and how our governmental bodies are addressing them, we will be in a situation to cause some change.
Report Unsustainable Forestry Practices
If you do live in an area dominated by Crown land, and you witness unsound management practices, report it to your district MNRF office.
Talk About the Issues
Tell your neighbour, talk to your family, talk to your friends, write letters to the editor, blog about it, tweet about it, text about it. Word of mouth is powerful, and the more people that care about these issues, the more of a push there is for our governments to do something about them.
